October, fourth, 1986 on all country - in the big cities and small settlements, in streets and in houses - the unusual revival reigned, all conversations were reduced only to one grandiose event to which conducted long 33 years... More than 25 thousand persons - and those only under special invitations ths motor vehicles, buses, trains and even helicopters since early morning have directed to northwest coast of the country. The queen and the government, members of parliament and royal family, the European monarchs and heads of the states, other guests of honour took part in this solemn ceremony. Well and those who has not had the luck to appear among invited, were content with direct teletranslation. This day in the Netherlands end of the works connected with realisation "Delta-project" was officially marked, similar to which was not for all history of mankind.

In history of the Netherlands this project - its preparation and implementation - takes a special place. It has surpassed in a plan and amount of works even the plan offered once by engineer Leli and approved by parliament in 1921. The essence of that plan consisted in cutting off of gulf Zejderze from the North Sea a 32,5-kilometre dam (it has been erected in record-breaking short terms - for ten years) and carrying out of necessary drying works. During discussion of plan Leli even optimists up to the end did not trust in a reality of its realisation, and only persistence, deep conviction and dokazatelnost the calculations presented by the engineer and its supporters, have inclined then a bowl of scales in favour of project acceptance. To it, engineer Leli who has safely taken advantage of centuries-old experience of the people, Netherlanders by occurrence new (on it is artificial the created, drained earths) provinces Flevoland are obliged. And it is final, the capital of this province has been named in its honour-lelistad, the city of Leli.
